Duden-waterfalls-1

About 12 kilometers north of central Antalya are the Duden Waterfalls, a lush attraction that emphasizes the spectacular Mediterranean character of the city. The water that falls into the Mediterranean Sea is recycled water originating from the Taurus Mountains; as it cascades down the rocky cliff, it becomes, once again, one with nature.

The waterfalls are split into two levels, formed by separate plateaus. These are the Upper Duden Waterfalls and the Lower Duden Waterfall, the latter of which drops down into the sea. Both are awe-inspiring sights, surrounded by a verdant park and visible from the sea.

Upper Duden Waterfalls

The Upper Duden Waterfalls are a series of cascades that measure up to 15 meters tall, at the heart of a forested park. It’s one of the premier recreational outdoor spaces in and around Antalya, known for its seclusion and quiet beauty; visitors can also explore the caves behind the waterfalls for a magical view. There are occasional park benches and tables set into the space, where you can enjoy an afternoon snack or a picnic while listening to the refreshing sound of falling water.

The Upper Duden Waterfalls have another name, too, because of its local lore: some call it the “Alexander Falls,” after Alexander the Great. The story goes that Alexander the Great watered his horses here as he was conquering the area in the fourth century BC.

Whether the story of Alexander the Great is true or not, the Upper Duden Waterfalls are well worth a visit.

Lower Duden Waterfall

The magnificent waters of the Upper Duden flow onwards and off a rocky cliff in an incredible attraction known as the Lower Duden Waterfall. It is an absolutely unique experience; beyond the waterfall, you can see parts of Antalya, as well as the sprawling coastline. At the Lower Duden Waterfall, the water flows from about 40 meters high, creating a powerful splash.

The park surrounding the Duden Waterfalls has an observation deck specifically for viewing the Lower Duden Waterfall, surrounded by green meadow, restaurants, and a picnic area. As one of the most iconic views in Antalya, this place where the land meets the sea is a must-visit.

How to Visit by Land

One of the best ways to see both Duden Waterfalls is by land — meaning the surrounding park. The Duden Park is part of Antalya’s Varsak District, and it is accessible via Varsak minibuses or public transportation from Antalya’s city center.

The park is open every day from 9:00am to 7:30pm in the summer and from 9:00am to 6:00pm in the winter. The entrance fee varies, but it is usually a small amount between 5 TL and 10 TL.

How to Visit by Sea

An absolutely unparalleled way to see the Lower Duden Waterfall is by boat, which offers you a once-in-a-lifetime perspective of the attraction. There are boat tours from Antalya Harbor that stop by the waterfall, which you should book in advance if you decide to see the waterfall by sea.
